Scholarships

One Aggie Network - African and African American Alumni Association (5A) Award

The African and African American Alumni Association (5A) Student Award is available for sophomore through senior standing students. Applicants are required to demonstrate leadership in student organizations, clubs, community activities, employment or personal situations. Award amounts range from $1,000 to $4,000. Top choice candidates may also be considered for the $10,000 Blue and Gold Leadership Scholarship ($5,000 disbursed over two years).

Goss Academic Achievement Award

The African American and African Studies Department at UC Davis is proud to host the annual competition for the Goss Academic Achievement Award. Through this award, AAS majors can receive $1000. This award cycle is currently open to upperclassmen (Juniors and Seniors). 

Gary Perkins Academic Achievement Student Award

The African American and African Studies Department at UC Davis is proud to host the annual competition for the Gary Perkins Academic Achievement Student Award. Through this award, AAS majors and minors can receive $1000.

Leadership Development

ACE: African Diaspora Cultivating Education

ACE seeks to create a supportive environment that encourages personal development, cultural awareness, and academic success through programming, retreats and conferences that inform and empower students within the African Diaspora and allies.

NASPA Undergraduate Fellows Program (NUFP)

The NASPA Undergraduate Fellows Program is a semi-structured mentoring program and cohort experience for undergraduate students that are interested in or exploring the field of student affairs. The mission of the program is to increase the number of historically disenfranchised and underrepresented professionals in student affairs and/or higher education. This includes, but is not limited to, those of racial and ethnic-minority background, those having a disability and those who identify as LGBTQIA+. 

Research and Academic Programs

California Lois Stokes Alliance for Minority Participation program (CAMP)

Funded by the National Science Foundation, the UC Office of the President and UC Davis Undergraduate Education, the CAMP program provides faculty-mentored research experience to STEM majors. The program seeks to increase the number of students who transition to STEM graduate programs or careers. CAMP Research Scholars receive stipends to conduct research. CAMP Emerging Scholars do not receive funding but fully participate in CAMP activities. 

The Linda Frances Alexander Scholars Program

The Linda Frances Alexander Scholars Program (LFA) is a comprehensive academic, social and cultural enrichment initiative aimed to address the barriers that have prevented the full participation of educationally disadvantaged students at the U.S. undergraduate level, including but not limited to students from the African Diaspora.

McNair Scholars Program

The McNair Scholars Program is a federal TRIO program funded across the United States and Puerto Rico by the U.S. Department of Education. It is designed to prepare undergraduate students for doctoral studies through involvement in research and other scholarly activities. McNair participants are first-generation college students with financial need who have shown strong academic potential. The McNair Scholars Program is focused on research and is therefore not designed for students who intend to pursue professional degrees such as medicine, law or business management.

Mentorship for Undergraduate Research Participants in the Mathematical and Physical Sciences (MURPPS)

Designed to increase the number of underserved students who pursue graduate studies in the math and physical sciences, the MURPPS program provides faculty-mentored research experience to math and physical sciences majors. MURPPS Research Scholars receive stipends to conduct research. MURPPS Emerging Scholars do not receive funding but fully participate in MURPPS activities.

UC LEADS

UC LEADS is a two-year program that provides students with educational experiences that prepare them to assume positions of leadership in industry, government, public service and academia. The program is designed for current UC Davis undergraduates who identify as educationally and/or economically disadvantaged majoring in science, mathematics or engineering who show promise of succeeding in doctoral degree programs. Additional benefits include: research experience, research stipends, GRE preparation, seminars and advising, and travel to professional meetings.

UC-HBCU Initiative

The UC-HBCU Initiative connects faculty and undergraduate scholars at both UC (University of California) and HBCU (Historically Black Colleges and Universities) campuses. Through faculty-guided summer programs, undergraduates learn how to conduct research and develop professional skills and knowledge of graduate school in a variety of academic disciplines.
