African American and African Studies

African American and African Studies is an interdisciplinary field of study in the humanities, arts and social sciences. Students in this department have an opportunity to investigate the history and culture of communities of African descent around the world.

The African & African American (AAA) Living-Learning Community

The African & African American (AAA) living-learning community is an empowering space which connects you with the experiences and stories of the peoples of African descent. The LLC is located in Campbell Hall, named after Leslie Campbell, who dedicated 30 years to UC Davis in Undergraduate Admissions. 

Center for African Diaspora Student Success

The Center for African Diaspora Student Success (CADSS) is the host of the Black Pages. The Center promotes academic achievement, personal and professional development, and community engagement. CADSS is a welcoming space and open to all students, regardless of identity, who are interested in exploring and understanding the African diasporic experiences and engaging in productive dialogue and community with others. The center serves as a valuable resource for any student who seeks to develop their cultural competency and contribute to a campus environment that values diversity, connection and a shared commitment to the success of all students.

African Continuum

The African Continuum, a collective of faculty, staff, student and alumni is dedicated to the recruitment, retention and advancement of people of African descent. This student focused organization values holistic education emphasizing a tradition of academic excellence, cultural exploration and exposure, and a commitment to service. Collectively, with the active involvement of a strong UC Davis student, staff, faculty and alumni network, the Continuum advocates for the institutional commitment, representation, and celebration of people of African descent.

ACE: African Diaspora Cultivating Education

ACE seeks to create a supportive environment that encourages personal development, cultural awareness, and academic success through programming, retreats and conferences that inform and empower students within the African Diaspora and allies.

Collective 

Collective provides both academic and social  support to empower transfer, reentry, parent and  all non-traditional students to succeed in higher education. Collective offers all students a safe  and welcoming environment to further engage in  their educational pursuits. Through campus visits, Collective introduces disadvantaged students to  the opportunities and possibilities a university education provides.

Community Advising Network 

The Community Advising Network (CAN) provides educational counseling, informative programs, workshops and other campus outreach services through the African Diaspora community counselors.

Cross Cultural Center 

The Cross Cultural Center works toward a more just and liberated world. The Center creates compassionate community spaces that foster identity development, critical consciousness and collective innovation. The programs and services offered by the Center are available to all students, and the following six values guide our work: Advocacy, Cultural Humility, Community Building, Educational Excellence, Identity Exploration and Leadership Development.

Center for Educational Opportunity Program

Educational Opportunity Program (EOP) offers an array  of services to help students adapt both academically  and socially to the university setting and successfully  achieve their educational goals. EOP provides a caring  and supportive environment for students to meet  with peer and staff advisors and network with other  students.

Employee Resource Group - AAFSA

The mission of the African American Faculty and Staff Association (AAFSA) is to build community, identify career development opportunities and provide resources for African American employees at UC Davis Health. Our goals are to support our members in their personal and professional development and cultivate a sense of belonging for all employees.

Sacramento Area Youth Speaks

Founded in 2009 at UC Davis, Sacramento Area Youth Speaks (SAYS) strives to change the world through education and empowerment. Building on a foundation of critical literacy and spoken word performance poetry, SAYS breaks the chains of underachievement by elevating the voices and power of students as authors of their own lives and agents of change.
